Read John 21:15-19

John 21:15-19 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love (Agape) me more than these?"

"Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love (phileo) you."

Jesus said, "Feed my lambs."

16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love (Agape) me?"

He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love (phileo) you."

Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep."

17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love (phileo) me?"

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."

Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. 18 I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!"

Love me more than these? (idols)

Could be the disciples? Probably not.

How about the fish, the big fish

Could Peter trust following Jesus more than his skill and trade?

Relationship - "Do you love me?"

What's unsaid - Why do you ask?

When is Jesus going to be enough for you?

Agape or Phileo - or ?

What if Shelley said "do you love me?"

and I replied "I like you a lot?"

Not guilt trip time, but clarity time

Why ask three times

Jesus takes Peter back to the time of His calling and the time of His greatest failure .

Jesus aims to burn something else into Peter's mind. Replace the movie

God's call to us is decisive, comes through Jesus Christ and is aimed at every thing we do and everything we are - and nothing less!

Feed my Sheep - Take care of my sheep, tend them - be a Shepherd!

Fishing wasn't his calling, it was loving people. You can't love God without loving people!

Remember what I made you for! Fish for men, care for my sheep

Here's how it will end for you

Jesus gave Peter a glimpse of his own destiny, what would you do with a glimpse of yours

If you knew how your end would be - how would you respond (Keeney's) Peter hears about his end

Peter, you'll have to lay down your life! Things are going to get tougher - are you up to it Peter?

If so, here is a tangible response, feed the sheep - tend the sheep

Follow Me Kieerkegard said "I want to find the idea for which I can live and die"

Is there anything, an idea, a person, a calling for which you would not only live for, but die for?

One of the greatest things we ever do is hear the call, know why we are here.

Made to sing, lead, heal, teach, inspire, clean, repair, dream design

The first words Jesus says to any man is Follow Me- From time to time, He says those words again.

A person said after reading the gospels, either these are not the gospels or we are not Christians

John 21:20-25

20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?"

22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?"

24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

Boanerges - sons of Thunder

What a transformation took place in his life

By the time the editors added this response, Jesus' words were being misunderstood to indicate that the beloved disciple would never die.
