Presents come in many sizes. Some are very beautifully wrapped, while others may be presented in a bag or even pulled out of a pocket or purse What is a true indication of the gift’s significance? "This is Huge" is a modern day axiom for "this is very significant." As we share this Eve of Christmas let us look at the gift that is truly huge, the gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

The birth of Jesus Christ is how God chose to send His only son to earth and as we look at it again today, we can say, "This Gift is truly Huge." Defining huge has varied over the years for me and it probably has for you also.

I’ll never forget the package that I thought was huge. After all, it was the largest package under the tree and it had my name on it. Early Christmas morning i had the opportunity to open that large box. Inside that huge box was another box all wrapped up and inside that one another and then another until I opened the last box, which was very tiny and inside that box was nothing. My brother had played a cruel trick on me. This gift was large but it certainly was not huge. I can’t remember but I probably cried. The world today has some very large, colorful, luring, boxes. They look like they might be significant so we chase after a get rich quick scheme, or a thrill of a lifetime opportunity, or a party with a kalaidoscope of sounds and attractions. You know! I can tell that many of you, in your lifetime have been drawn away and inticed by these things and almost in every case the box cost you more than you thought it would and it delivered much less than you expected. The World has billboards to get our attention but God gives us road signs to guide us through life. Many people have chosen to look at the billboards of life and ignore the danger signs that God posts all around these things. Crumbled paper and empty boxes may be attractive to a little child but we know these things will not sustain and are not really "huge" or significant. The largest most colorful packaging is so often a misrepresentation of the actual contents of a gift.

We have all had a Christmas that we thought was going to be huge because of the number of presents that were under the tree with our name on them. Some soft, some hard, some that make sounds when we shake them, We know because we checked them out. My stocking is usually filled with lots of tiny wrapped gifts and although they are fun to open, they contain, tictacs, socks, candy canes, lip-balm, gloves and so on. Most of the time they are nice because they are great in quantity. They are many. But in all of reality they are also mini (small gifts). God has showered each and every one of us with a great quantity of gifts in life. Our tendency is is to think of them as mini-gifts, small things, insignificant things. When we do that we are wrong because tiny gifts, like a baby in a manger is a mighty gift of great significance. In the midst of the small stuff, once in awhile we will receive a small gift that is very valuable and very significant.

I guess the greatest gift is not measured by size or quantity but it is measured by quality. When I say that I am not talking about the monitary worth or cost of the gift. There are some baseball cards that cost a lot of money but in all of eternity these cards are of no value. Gifts to us seem to be worth more than a gift someone gives to a work associate. We could call these Worth-Thee gifts because there only worth is to thee, you, us! But the greatest gift ever given was the gift given the first Christmas. I call it a WORTH-He gift. The emphasis is on HIM, Our Lord and Savior Jesus, Christ. He was an Unspeakable Gift.

Thanks be to God for His Unspeakable Gift.

2 Corinthians 9:15

All Other gifts:

1. Can be measured - The gift of the Lord is a priceless gift

2. Are from other people - This is a gift from Almighty God

3. Are given to friends - This gift was offered to even the enemies of God

4. You can Buy - This gift cannot be purchased but is free to anyone who will believe and confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

5. Will pass away - This gift is eternal

Today we are going to remember this Unspeakable gift, Jesus. He is eternal and priceless the presence of God.
