Summary: In this sermon we'll explore why ungodly people attack godly people and what the Bible has to say about this phenomenon.
As believers, we are not immune to persecution and attacks from ungodly people. In fact, the Bible teaches us that we can expect to face opposition and hostility from those who do not share our faith. In this sermon we'll explore why ungodly people attack godly people and what the Bible has to say about this phenomenon.
Why we face Opposition?
The Bible teaches us that godly people will face opposition from ungodly people. In 2 Timothy 3:12, the apostle Paul writes, "Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution." Here, Paul emphasizes that persecution is a normal part of the Christian life.
Why Ungodly People Attack Godly People?
So, why do ungodly people attack godly people? Here are a few reasons:
1. The Light of God Exposes Darkness: When godly people live out their faith, they reflect the light of God, which exposes the darkness of ungodly people. This can lead to feelings of conviction, guilt, and anger, causing ungodly people to lash out at godly people.
2. The Fear of Being Confronted with the Truth: Ungodly people may attack godly people because they fear being confronted with the truth about their sinful lifestyle. By attacking godly people, they can avoid feeling convicted or challenged to change their ways.
3. The Desire to Silence the Message of the Gospel: Ungodly people may attack godly people because they want to silence the message of the Gospel. By persecuting godly people, they hope to intimidate them into keeping quiet about their faith.
4. The Influence of Satan: Finally, ungodly people may attack godly people because they are influenced by Satan, who is the enemy of God and His people. Satan seeks to destroy godly people and undermine their effectiveness for the Kingdom.
How to Respond to Attacks from Ungodly People
So, how should we respond when faced with attacks from ungodly people? Here are a few principles to keep in mind:
1. Pray for Your Enemies: Jesus taught us to pray for our enemies, blessing those who curse us and praying for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44).
2. Stand Firm in Your Faith: When faced with opposition, stand firm in your faith, knowing that God is your Rock and Refuge (Psalm 18:2).
3. Focus on Your Calling: Rather than getting distracted by the attacks of ungodly people, focus on your calling and the work God has given you to do (Matthew 28:18-20).
4. Seek God's Wisdom and Guidance: When faced with difficult situations, seek God's wisdom and guidance, asking Him to give you discernment and insight (James 1:5).
In conclusion, ungodly people attack godly people because they are opposed to the light of God, fear being confronted with the truth, desire to silence the message of the Gospel, and are influenced by Satan. As believers, we must be prepared to face opposition and persecution, but we can respond with prayer, faith, and a focus on our calling. By seeking God's wisdom and guidance, we can overcome the attacks of ungodly people and fulfill our destiny as godly men and women.
