INTRODUCTION:
In the first part of this sermon, we examined the causes and signs of spiritual dryness. We discovered that neglecting prayer, the Word of God, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit can lead to spiritual barrenness. In this second part, we will explore divine steps to overcoming spiritual dryness and how to experience continuous spiritual revival.
1. RETURNING TO THE FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER
To overcome dryness, we must return to God, the source of life.
a) Recognising our need for God (Psalm 42:1-2)
A thirsty soul must seek after God to be refreshed.
b) Confessing and forsaking sin (1 John 1:9)
Sin creates a barrier between us and God; repentance restores fellowship.
c) Renewing our commitment to God (James 4:8)
Drawing near to God guarantees spiritual renewal.
d) Developing a hunger for God’s presence (Isaiah 55:1-2)
Only God can satisfy the deep longing of the soul.
e) Biblical Example: The prodigal son’s return (Luke 15:17-20)
When the son realised his emptiness, he returned to the father and was restored.
2. REVIVING YOUR PRAYER LIFE
Prayer is a key to spiritual revival and overcoming dryness.
a) Praying with sincerity and fervency (Jeremiah 29:13)
God responds to those who seek Him with their whole heart.
b) Engaging in prolonged, deep prayers (Luke 6:12)
Jesus often spent whole nights in prayer to maintain spiritual strength.
c) Praying in the Spirit (Jude 1:20)
Praying in tongues edifies and strengthens the believer.
d) Setting a daily prayer schedule (Daniel 6:10)
A consistent prayer life keeps us spiritually fresh.
e) Biblical Example: Elijah’s prayer for revival (1 Kings 18:36-39)
Through intense prayer, Elijah called down fire from heaven and revived Israel.
3. FEEDING ON THE WORD OF GOD DAILY
God’s Word is essential for spiritual nourishment and growth.
a) Meditating on the Word daily (Joshua 1:8)
Meditation on Scripture brings spiritual strength and success.
b) Allowing the Word to transform your mind (Romans 12:2)
The Word renews our thinking and aligns us with God’s will.
c) Listening to anointed teachings (Acts 2:42)
Receiving sound biblical teaching builds faith and understanding.
d) Speaking and declaring the Word (Job 22:28)
The spoken Word carries the power to break spiritual dryness.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus overcoming temptation (Matthew 4:4-10)
Jesus used the Word to overcome the enemy and remain spiritually strong.
4. STIRRING UP THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHIN YOU
The Holy Spirit is the river of living water that refreshes our soul.
a) Yielding to the Holy Spirit daily (Romans 8:14)
Being led by the Spirit keeps us spiritually alive.
b) Worshipping in Spirit and truth (John 4:23-24)
True worship invites the presence of the Holy Spirit.
c) Avoiding spiritual lukewarmness (Revelation 3:16)
Lukewarmness leads to spiritual decline; we must stay on fire for God.
d) Engaging in spiritual exercises like fasting (Matthew 17:21)
Fasting refocuses our spirit and draws us closer to God.
e) Biblical Example: The disciples at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4)
When they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they were revived and empowered.
5. ENGAGING IN FELLOWSHIP AND KINGDOM SERVICE
Spiritual dryness is overcome through active participation in God’s work.
a) Connecting with other believers (Hebrews 10:25)
Fellowship strengthens and refreshes the spirit.
b) Serving God with passion (Romans 12:11)
Kingdom service keeps us spiritually engaged and fruitful.
c) Evangelising and winning souls (Proverbs 11:30)
Preaching the gospel fuels spiritual fire.
d) Using our gifts for God’s glory (1 Peter 4:10)
Serving with our talents brings joy and spiritual satisfaction.
e) Biblical Example: Paul’s dedication to God’s work (Philippians 3:12-14)
Paul overcame trials by staying focused on his divine assignment.
CONCLUSION:
Spiritual dryness can be overcome by returning to God, reviving our prayer life, feeding on the Word, stirring up the Holy Spirit, and actively serving in the Kingdom. As we take these steps, God will refresh us and restore our spiritual fire.
