Opening:

Today, we stand at the foot of the cross. The air is heavy. The sky has darkened. The Son of God hangs in agony. This was not an accident or a tragedy. This was a divine transaction. The crushing of Jesus was the plan of the Father, for the salvation of the world.

1. The Pleasure of the Father – Isaiah 53:10–12

Isaiah 53:10–12: ?"But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, For He will bear their wrongdoings. Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers."?

God was not pleased in pain, but in the purpose of redemption. Jesus bore our iniquity, our shame, our punishment.

2. The Crushing That Releases Sweetness

Object Lesson: Grape and Unleavened Bread

Psalm 34:8: "Taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"

The grape must be crushed to release its sweetness. So too, Christ had to be crushed for us to taste His goodness. Salvation is to be received and experienced.

3. The Finished Work – John 19:28–30

John 19:28–30: "After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, said, ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit."

2 Corinthians 5:21: "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

Communion (10-12 Minutes)

“Today, as we come to the Lord’s table, let’s not rush past what He’s offering. He’s not calling us to a religious act—He’s calling us to remember His love, renew our covenant with Him, examine our hearts, and anticipate His return. This table is for the weary, the thankful, the broken, and the redeemed. Jesus is here, and He is eager to share this with you—just like He was on that first Holy Week.”

Come to the table and partake, return to your seat and we will join in His fellowship together.

Reflect: The grape is sweet because it's crushed. Jesus was crushed for the remission of our sins. The bread is torn, not by sin but by choice.

?Isaiah 53:11: "As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied..."

Take the elements in reverence.

Closing Reflection:

He was crushed so you could be made whole. Taste and see His goodness.
