Summary: BELIEVERS ARE AN EARTHLY TEMPLE.
2 CHRONICLES 2: 1
OBSERVATION:
THE WORD CHRONICLES MEANS “EVENTS OF THE DAY OR YEARS”. SOME SCHOLARS REFER TO CHRONICLES AS “THINGS LEFT OUT”. JEWISH TRADITION FAVORS EZRA AS THE WRITER OF CHRONICLES. SOME SCHOLARS DISAGREE. KEY CHARACTERS ARE DAVID, SOLOMON, HEZEKIAH AND JOSIAH.
INTERPRETATION:
2 CHRONICLES 2:1 (NKJV) THEN SOLOMON DETERMINED TO BUILD A ROYAL TEMPLE FOR THE NAME OF THE LORD, AND A ROYAL HOUSE FOR HIMSELF.
POINTS TO PONDER:
IT WAS CUSTOMARY FOR A NEW KING TO BUILD A PALACE AS A PHYSICAL AND VISIBLE SIGN OF SOVEREIGNTY, PARTICULARLY AFTER A MILITARY CONQUEST. GOD APPOINTED SOLOMON TO BUILD HIS TEMPLE RATHER THAN DAVID. THE PROPHET NATHAN WAS INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS. MANY JEWS AND OTHERS WERE FORCED INTO THE PROJECT. READ 1 CHRONICLES 17: 9-15. THERE IS AN OLD SAYING THAT THE OLD TESTAMENT POINTS TO THE NEW TESTAMENT.
ONE DAY JESUS ENTERED THE TEMPLE IN JERUSALEM AND MADE A STUNNING STATEMENT! MATTHEW 12:6 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE) “BUT I TELL YOU, SOMETHING GREATER AND MORE EXALTED AND MORE MAJESTIC THAN THE TEMPLE IS HERE! HE SPOKE OF HIMSELF!
READ REVELATION 21:22. (NKJV) BUT I SAW NO TEMPLE IN IT, FOR THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY AND THE LAMB ARE ITS TEMPLE. THIS SPEAKS TO THE NEW JERUSALEM. THERE IS NO NEED FOR A TEMPLE!
APPLICATION:
BELIEVERS ARE AN EARTHLY TEMPLE. READ 1 CORINTHIANS 6: 19-20. DOES GOD APPROVE YOUR TEMPLE?
