Summary: The Life of Abraham
Acts 7:1-8 The Life of Abraham
1 Then said the high priest, Are these things so? Stephen speaks of -
1. Revelation - 2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken;
A Divine Revelation - The God of glory appeared
A Direct Revelation - unto our father Abraham,
A Distinct Revelation - when he was in Mesopotamia,
He Remembered the Time, the Place, the Person, and the Purpose.
A Dynamic Revelation - before he dwelt in Charran,
It sowed - Fear, Faith, Favour, and Future.
2 Corinthians 5: - Position - 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ,
Possession - he is a new creature: Past - old things are passed away;
Purpose - behold, all things are become new.
Praise - 18 And all things are of God,
Pardon - who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ,
Propitiation - and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Cor 5:20 we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2, Renovation -
It's Personal - 3 and said unto him,
It's Practical - Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred,
It's Purposeful - and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
3. Resignation -
The Time - 4 Then - came he out of the land of the Chaldæans,
The Track - and dwelt in Charran: and from thence,
The Test - when his father was dead,
The Task - he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
4. Resolution - Abraham Had -
No Place in it - 5 And he gave him none inheritance in it,
No Part of it - no, not so much as to set his foot on:
No Proof with it - yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, (All he had was a promise)
No Posterity for it - when as yet he had no child.
5. Rejection - In Egypt -
The Sovereignty - 6 And God spake on this wise,
The Separation - That his seed should sojourn in a strange land;
The Subjugation - and that they should bring them into bondage,
The Subordination - and entreat them evil four hundred years.
6. Retribution -
The Place - 7 And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage
The Price - will I judge, said God:
The Plan - and after that
The Path - shall they come forth,
The Purpose - and serve me in this place.
7. Ratification -
The Promise - 8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision:
The Power - and so Abraham begat Isaac,
Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 for he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
*12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
The Pact - and circumcised him the eighth day;
The Pursuit - and Isaac begat Jacob; (A Bride for Isaac)
The People - and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.
