Genesis 12:10-20; 20:1-18

March 23, 2003

Fairy tales have a sense of justice

What if the ugly stepsister married the prince?

What if the wolf huffed and puffed and really blew the pig’s house down.

If asked you this morning to tell me a story about one of your ancestors, what kind of story would you tell?

What about the patriachs of this church?

Mr. Lawson, Mr. Brunner, Doc McCormick, Mr. Whaley

What kind of story would you tell?

Well, yeah he was a spiritual man but let me tell you about how he used to kick his dog.

Yeah, she was a godly woman, but she loved to tell a juicy story.

No - Positive

So when we come across a negative story we need to pay attention.

Scene 1 Genesis 12:10-20

The plan to lie 12:10-13

The result of the lie 12:14-16

The Lie found out 12:17-20

Scene 2 Genesis 20

Abraham’s lie 20:1-2

God confront’s Abimelech 20:3-7

Abimelech confronts Abraham 20:8-10

Abraham confesses his fear 20:11-13

The conclusion 20:14-18

What’s wrong with this picture?

1. Even after grace - we are still sinners

2. God’s grace works despite our continuing sin

NIV 2 Timothy 2:13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
