ANOINTED TO DO BETTER

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: 1 Samuel 10:1

Supporting Texts: 1 Samuel 16:1, 12-13; Acts 13:22

INTRODUCTION:

The anointing of God is not just a religious ritual; it is a divine empowerment that transforms ordinary individuals into extraordinary vessels for His purpose. Throughout Scripture, we see how God anointed men and women to rise above limitations, break barriers, and fulfil His plans. When the anointing comes upon a person, it does not leave them the same. It imparts supernatural ability, wisdom, favour, and divine acceleration to accomplish what human effort alone cannot achieve. Saul was anointed as Israel's first king, but his reign was filled with disobedience and failure. However, David was also anointed, and he did better—his leadership brought Israel into greater prosperity, military victories, and a deeper walk with God. The anointing upon his life positioned him for excellence beyond his predecessor.

God does not anoint people for decoration; He anoints them for a purpose. The anointing carries the power to break limitations, elevate individuals, and equip them for their divine assignments. This is why David, despite being the youngest and least expected candidate, was chosen by God. While others saw a shepherd boy, God saw a king. His anointing was not just to replace Saul but to do better than Saul. This same principle applies to us today—when God anoints a person, He empowers them to exceed past limitations and move into higher realms of success and effectiveness.

Many believers live below their divine potential because they do not fully understand or activate the anointing upon their lives. The anointing is not just for pastors, prophets, or church leaders; it is for every child of God who desires to walk in the fullness of God’s purpose. It is the anointing that makes the difference between struggling in one’s assignment and excelling beyond expectations. As we study this topic, we will see how the anointing positions us to do better in life, ministry, career, and every other aspect of our destiny.

1. THE ANOINTING BREAKS LIMITATIONS

The anointing is a supernatural force that destroys every form of limitation that hinders progress. Without the anointing, people remain trapped in cycles of failure, stagnation, and unfulfilled potential. When the anointing comes upon a person, it removes obstacles, dismantles yokes, and ushers them into new dimensions of success.

a) The anointing separates you for greatness (1 Samuel 10:1)

Saul was just an ordinary man until he was anointed, and the anointing set him apart as king over Israel.

b) The anointing removes past hindrances (Isaiah 10:27)

Every yoke and burden that has held a person down is destroyed when the anointing is activated.

c) The anointing qualifies the unqualified (Exodus 4:10-12)

God chose Moses despite his speech difficulties and anointed him for leadership.

d) The anointing gives supernatural boldness (Acts 4:13)

The disciples, who were once timid, became bold preachers through the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

e) Biblical Example: Gideon’s Transformation (Judges 6:11-16)

Gideon saw himself as weak, but the anointing turned him into a mighty warrior.

2. THE ANOINTING BRINGS EXCELLENCE

The anointing does not only break limitations; it also empowers individuals to operate in excellence. Those who carry the anointing of God do not settle for mediocrity; they rise above the ordinary and display divine wisdom, skill, and effectiveness in all they do. The anointing refines gifts, enhances abilities, and makes a person stand out in their generation.

a) The anointing distinguishes you from others (Daniel 6:3)

Daniel was preferred above all others because of an excellent spirit that set him apart.

b) The anointing increases wisdom and skill (Exodus 31:2-5)

Bezalel was filled with divine skill to accomplish the intricate work of the tabernacle.

c) The anointing enhances performance (1 Samuel 16:18)

David was not only a skilled musician but also carried the anointing, which made him exceptional.

d) The anointing grants divine insight (Isaiah 11:2)

The Spirit of the Lord gives wisdom, understanding, and counsel that surpass human intelligence.

e) Biblical Example: Joseph’s Wisdom in Egypt (Genesis 41:38-41)

Joseph’s anointing enabled him to interpret dreams and govern Egypt with excellence.

CONCLUSION:

The anointing is a necessity for every believer who desires to walk in the fullness of their destiny. It is what makes the difference between struggling and excelling, between ordinary living and supernatural impact. David did not become great because of his personal abilities alone; he was anointed to do better than Saul. Today, that same anointing is available for every believer who desires to rise above limitations and operate in divine excellence.

God does not anoint people to remain the same; He anoints them to transform their world. As you seek God’s anointing, expect supernatural breakthroughs, divine speed, wisdom, and empowerment for greater works. You are not called to be average—you are anointed to do better!
