INTRODUCTION:

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is the supernatural empowerment given to believers to accomplish God's work on earth. It is not just a symbolic act but a tangible manifestation of God’s power and presence. Jesus Himself was anointed by the Holy Spirit for His earthly ministry (Luke 4:18). As believers, we cannot function effectively without the anointing. It is the anointing that breaks yokes, empowers us for service, and brings transformation in our lives and the lives of others.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

a) Definition of the Anointing

The anointing is the divine enablement given by the Holy Spirit to carry out God’s purposes effectively.

b) The Anointing is God's Power

The anointing is not a feeling but the power of God resting upon a person to do extraordinary things.

c) The Anointing Separates and Commissions

God anoints people for specific assignments, separating them for divine purposes (1 Samuel 16:13).

d) The Anointing is for Service, Not for Show

The anointing is given for ministry and impact, not for personal glory or entertainment.

e) Biblical Example: Jesus Christ (Luke 4:18-19)

Jesus was anointed to preach, heal, deliver, and set captives free. The same anointing is available for believers today.

2. PURPOSES OF THE ANOINTING

a) Empowerment for Ministry (Acts 1:8)

The Holy Spirit anoints believers to be effective witnesses of the gospel.

b) Deliverance and Breakthrough (Isaiah 10:27)

The anointing breaks yokes and lifts burdens, setting people free from oppression.

c) Supernatural Wisdom and Understanding (1 John 2:27)

The anointing gives divine insight, revelation, and understanding of God’s Word.

d) Healing and Miracles (Acts 10:38)

Through the anointing, Jesus went about healing the sick and performing miracles.

e) Biblical Example: Peter and John at the Beautiful Gate (Acts 3:6-7)

Through the anointing, they healed a lame man, demonstrating the power of God.

3. HOW TO RECEIVE THE ANOINTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

a) Desire and Hunger for the Holy Spirit (Matthew 5:6)

The anointing comes upon those who earnestly seek more of God’s presence.

b) Consecration and Holiness (2 Timothy 2:21)

A life of purity attracts the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

c) Prayer and Fasting (Acts 13:2-3)

The anointing is activated through consistent prayer and fasting.

d) Faith and Obedience (John 14:15-17)

The Holy Spirit anoints those who walk in faith and obedience to God’s Word.

e) Biblical Example: The Disciples on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4)

The Holy Spirit filled the disciples as they waited in obedience, empowering them for global impact.

4. HOW TO GROW AND MAINTAIN THE ANOINTING

a) Consistent Fellowship with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 13:14)

The more we walk with the Holy Spirit, the more we grow in the anointing.

b) Diligence in Studying God's Word (2 Timothy 2:15)

The anointing is sustained by a deep understanding of the Scriptures.

c) Living a Prayerful Life (Jude 1:20)

The anointing is strengthened when we pray consistently, especially in the Spirit.

d) Obedience to Divine Instructions (1 Samuel 15:22)

The anointing increases in the life of those who obey God completely.

e) Biblical Example: Elisha (2 Kings 2:9-15)

Elisha received and maintained a double portion of Elijah’s anointing through dedication and obedience.

5. SIGNS OF A LIFE FILLED WITH THE ANOINTING

a) Boldness and Authority (Acts 4:31)

The anointing gives boldness to preach and stand for the truth.

b) Manifestation of Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)

A Spirit-filled believer operates in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

c) Fruitfulness in Ministry (John 15:16)

The anointing brings supernatural effectiveness and results in God’s work.

d) Victory Over Sin and Satan (Romans 8:11)

A life filled with the anointing overcomes sin and the attacks of the enemy.

e) Biblical Example: Paul’s Ministry (Acts 19:11-12)

The anointing upon Paul was so strong that even handkerchiefs and aprons from his body healed the sick.

CONCLUSION:

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is essential for every believer who desires to walk in power and fulfill God’s purpose. Without the anointing, ministry and Christian living become a struggle. However, with the anointing, we operate in supernatural power, break every yoke, and bring transformation to the world around us. God is still anointing men and women today—those who are willing to seek Him with all their hearts.

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, fill me afresh with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

2. Lord, let every yoke in my life be destroyed by the anointing.

3. Holy Spirit, empower me for effective ministry and divine assignments.

4. Lord, increase my hunger and thirst for Your presence and power.

5. Father, anoint my hands for healing and miracles.

6. Lord, let Your anointing break every limitation in my life.
