10 Ways the Holy Spirit Helps Us Text: Acts 2:1-4, Acts 1:8
Charles Haden Spurgen pastored the Metropolitan Tabernacle in England in 1854 to 1891 his first Sunday he preached to 37 people, but soon after, they packed out that great church to over 5,000 weekly. He said, “you must be with the Holy Ghost if the Holy Ghost is going to be with you.” He also said, “Nothing can maintain us in the freshness of our beginning, but the Holy Spirit.
I. 10 truths about the Holy Spirit. #1. “The Holy Spirit isn’t a dove, vapor or cloud. The Holy Spirit is a person who thinks, talks and acts. The Holy Spirit is the person that Jesus said we needed. The Holy Spirit is symbolized by oil, wine and water.
A. John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
B. One man said, “the Holy Spirit maybe the most over looked person on the planet!” The Holy Spirit knows! He can take any unnecessary fear out of your future.
C. #2. The Holy Spirit inspired men to document God’s word in scripture. II. Timothy 3:16 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (There is power in the word of God!)
D. #3. The Holy Spirit has researched and inventoried every good gift that will be received from you in the future. I Cor. 2:9 But as it is written: “ Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
E. #4. The Holy Spirit is determined and dogmatic about who will receive your attention in life! (Whom do you invest yourself in?) Acts 16: 6-7 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. [You can’t share your dreams before everybody! Jesus said don’t cast your peals before swine]!
F. #5. The Holy Spirit is our mentor. The Holy Spirit will always be the greatest teacher you will ever have. John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
G. #6. The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to us. Acts 2:38 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
H. #7.The Holy Spirit only enters by personal invitation. Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (The Holy Spirit isn’t going to do any more in your life unless I ask him.)
I. #8. The Holy Spirit reveals when the direction of your life is to change. Acts 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. [God is able to speak to us when we are to move. We are to be led by God].
J. #9. The Holy Spirit knows to whom you have been assigned. Acts 8: 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” (If you are obedient to God you are successful!)
K. #10. The Holy Spirit produces Joy! Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Gal. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, There is joy in knowing that you are where you have been assigned! If God assigns you to be a martyr will have joy in dying!
