INTRODUCTION:
Evangelism is not just a human effort; it is a divine assignment that requires divine empowerment. Jesus Himself, in Luke 4:18-19, declared that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him to preach the Good News. Before His ascension, He instructed His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit, because they could not effectively witness without His power (Acts 1:8).
The Holy Spirit is the source of boldness, wisdom, and conviction in preaching the gospel. Without Him, evangelism becomes mere words, but with Him, it becomes a life-transforming experience. This message explores how the Holy Spirit empowers us to share the gospel effectively.
1. THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES US BOLDNESS TO PREACH THE GOSPEL
Without the Holy Spirit, fear and timidity hinder believers from sharing the gospel.
a) The disciples received boldness after Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4, 14)
Before the Holy Spirit came, they were hiding in fear, but after receiving Him, Peter boldly preached, and 3,000 souls were saved.
b) The Spirit helps us overcome fear (2 Timothy 1:7)
God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.
c) Bold preaching comes with signs and wonders (Acts 4:29-31)
When the apostles prayed for boldness, the place was shaken, and they spoke the Word with power.
d) The Holy Spirit emboldens us in the face of persecution (Matthew 10:19-20)
He gives us the right words to speak in difficult situations.
e) Biblical Example: Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:13-20)
Though threatened, they refused to stop preaching because they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
2. THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICTS HEARTS AND BRINGS REPENTANCE
It is not our eloquence that saves souls; it is the power of the Holy Spirit.
a) Conviction of sin comes through the Spirit (John 16:8)
He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
b) The gospel is not just words but power (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
Paul preached not with human wisdom but with the demonstration of the Spirit’s power.
c) No one can truly accept Jesus without the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3)
It is the Holy Spirit that draws people to salvation.
d) The Spirit enables the gospel to touch hearts deeply (Ezekiel 36:26)
He replaces hearts of stone with hearts of flesh.
e) Biblical Example: The Conversion of Saul (Acts 9:1-6)
The Holy Spirit convicted Saul, and he became Paul, the great apostle.
3. THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVES WISDOM FOR EFFECTIVE EVANGELISM
Evangelism requires wisdom, and the Holy Spirit provides divine strategies.
a) The Spirit teaches us what to say (Luke 12:12)
In difficult situations, He gives us words to speak.
b) He leads us to the right people at the right time (Acts 8:29-35)
Philip was led by the Spirit to preach to the Ethiopian eunuch.
c) The Spirit gives us understanding of the scriptures (John 14:26)
He teaches and reminds us of God’s Word.
d) He helps us overcome opposition with wisdom (Luke 21:15)
The Spirit gives wisdom that no adversary can contradict.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus and the Samaritan Woman (John 4:7-26)
Jesus, led by the Spirit, used wisdom to lead her to salvation.
4. THE HOLY SPIRIT WORKS SIGNS AND WONDERS TO CONFIRM THE GOSPEL
Miracles attract people to Christ and confirm the truth of the gospel.
a) Jesus’ ministry was marked by signs and wonders (Acts 10:38)
He healed, delivered, and saved by the power of the Spirit.
b) The apostles performed miracles through the Spirit (Acts 3:6-10)
Peter healed the lame man, leading many to believe.
c) Miracles validate the message of Christ (Mark 16:20)
The Lord confirmed their preaching with signs following.
d) Healing and deliverance open doors for evangelism (Acts 8:6-8)
Philip’s miracles led to the salvation of many in Samaria.
e) Biblical Example: Paul and the Crippled Man (Acts 14:8-10)
Paul, filled with the Spirit, healed the man, leading many to believe.
5. THE HOLY SPIRIT MAKES US WITNESSES EVERYWHERE
Evangelism is not limited to a church setting; the Spirit empowers us to witness everywhere.
a) The gospel is for all people and all nations (Matthew 28:19-20)
We are called to make disciples of all nations.
b) The Spirit directs us to places where we are needed (Acts 16:6-10)
Paul was led by the Spirit to Macedonia instead of Asia.
c) Evangelism happens through our daily lives (Colossians 4:5-6)
We must witness with wisdom in our workplaces, schools, and communities.
d) The Spirit empowers us for cross-cultural evangelism (Acts 10:44-46)
Peter was led to preach to Cornelius, a Gentile.
e) Biblical Example: The Church in Antioch (Acts 11:19-21)
The Spirit-led believers shared the gospel wherever they went, and a great number believed.
