Will We Know Our Loved Ones As We Do Now? Series

Summary: This message addresses the question of whether we will know who our loved ones are in heaven.
MAIN THOUGHT:
“WE WILL KNOW EACH OTHER, EVEN THOUGH SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGES WILL HAVE TAKEN PLACE.”
- We will be dealing with the two major parts of that statement separately.
FIRST PART:
- “WE WILL KNOW EACH OTHER. . .”
1. I will know as I am known.
- 1 Corinthians 13:12 (“face to face”).
- Also see v. 10 (“in part will be done away”).
- We will have full knowledge of each other. (I.e. no problem with names.)
2. The disciples recognized Moses and Elijah.
- Matthew 17:1-8; Mark 9:2-8; Luke 9:28-36.
- Apparently the disciples knew who they were even without introductions.
3. David anticipated seeing his child again.
- Note that he anticipated seeing that specific person again.
4. Memory of “who you were” is necessary for judgment.
- Matthew 12:36, 41-42; Matthew 25:31-46.
SECOND PART:
- “. . . EVEN THOUGH SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGES WILL HAVE TAKEN PLACE.”
1. It is “not yet revealed” exactly what we will be.
- 1 John 3:2.
2. We will not have the “fallen” body we had on earth.
3. We will not be grouped in the “families” we are now in.
- Matthew 22:23-33; Mark 12:18-27; Luke 20:27-40.
- For some this is a major concern because we like to think of “being married” to each other for eternity. This is a sentimental idea that has no basis in Scripture. Scripture points us to something far better. That is point #4. . .
4. Our primary relationship will be with Jesus.
- Revelation 19:7-9; Revelation 21:2; John 3:29; Ephesians 5:25-27.
