Where you put your foot
Do you ever get the feeling that God has more in store for you? That there is something ahead, that he has for you, but you’ve never been there before. I don’t know if it’s at work, school or home. I don’t know if it’s with your emotional, physical or spiritual health. I don’t know if its relationships with family or friends. But what I want you to ask yourself, and ultimately God, is our point for today, and really the whole series:
? Where do you, need a break thru? Ask two neighbors that right now…
All do I know is that often in the course of our lives, God brings us to critical points of break thru. Times we need to make a choice-to follow where God wants us to go. Today we’ll open a book of the Bible that is all about break thru. It’s all about following God and pursuing the promises he gives to us when we seek him.
But what happens when you don’t? how many of you learned this song when you were a kid? 12 men went to spy… ok you’re learn’n it NOW!
So the story behind the song was simply this-God took his people out of Egypt and they were to go to the promise land, but moving a million people takes time, so 12 scouts were sent ahead and so the song goes…
but here’s the point-they were on the verge of a break thru-and said NO. 10 said don’t go, 2 said do go-and the 10 won! In fact they wanted to kill the 2, Caleb and Joshua-but they didn’t and so God let them wonder in the wilderness-and every one over the age of 20 died there over the course of the next 40 YEARS-all except J and C. (in fact the winter intensive pointed out the 10 baddies got wiped out with a plague!) and now these men stand with a new generation who are sick of the same old desert, ready to trade in manna for milk and honey, and want the break thru their parents and grand parents never knew-is that you?
If you’re tired of the same old same old, ready for God to do something new with you join me in prayer as we get started…
“Lord I’m tired of going thru the motions-I’m tired of not being all you want me to be-and where you want me to be… and if there is anybody else in here who feels the same way I just pray you’d open our eyes to the Word you have for us in this book and that we like your people so long ago would experience break thru too, as we pursue the promises you have for us IJN”
Now if you would be so kind as to open your Bibles to that break thru book, Joshua 1
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord , the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide:
2"Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them-to the Israelites.
3I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.
4Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates-all the Hittite country-to the Great Sea on the west.
5No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
? Blessings happen inside God’s boundaries.
Just like God was with ___________ he will be with you too.
What boundaries do you need to heed?
Pass that promise with me-the last 8 words of verse 5 say them with me “I will never leave you or forsake you” now tell your neighbor this “he will never leave you or forsake you” now turn to your other neighbor and tell them “he will never leave you or forsake you!” Somebody here needed to hear that from you-thanks for passing the promise!
Moses got the word from God that he was done, he went up into the mountains and died-and no one ever found the body-to this day. So what happens when you can’t find a body? People hold out-they say no, no he’ll be back-were not following you! Joshua himself may have been the main one-he never usurped Mo power and wasn’t about to start-but now God tells him No mo Mo-he’s dead.
And so God gives Joshua the unstoppable blessing-v. 3 where ever you put your foot! But watch this and God immediately gives boundaries-b/c God’s blessing always occur inside His boundaries. Today it’s true for us too! You want to go to the promise land of financial stability-but you won’t stay inside the boundaries of financial responsibility as God put forth in His Word? (do FPU-or listen to my sermons on money on our youtube channel). You want to go to the promise land of marriage… didn’t get one amen… but you don’t want to stay in the boundaries of Godly dating-or even Godly relationship in marriage. The list goes on but the principle remains the same-God’s blessings are always found in his boundaries-can you embrace the freedom we have in Jesus, that allows us to know in Him, we have all we need-where do you struggle to stay in the boundaries? Don’t you want the blessings?
