Of Scribes And Kings - Applying God's Principles For Life Series
Contributed by William Akehurst on Dec 21, 2018 (message contributor)
Summary: As believers, we are instructed to write down GOD's Word and even to journal it day by day. Studying the Bible is one thing, but writing down the words contained upon the tablet of your heart, will open a greater understanding, if you will simply try it.

Of Scribes and Kings
• GOD’s WORD says to study to show ourselves approved a workman onto God
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Think back to a time when there were no computers and typewriters. No copier machines, no mimeographs or lithographs, and even before the Guttenberg Press. Words were written letter by letter and point by point upon paper, leather, scrolls, bark, wood, reeds, tablets of stone, and even cave walls.
Think about the Scribes who spent their entire lives writing the Torah over and over and over again, letter by letter.
Think about how they “took in” GOD’s WORD each and every day of their career, writing THE WORD on the scroll as well as on the tablet of their heart. Over the years, they most likely had it memorized down to every jot and tittle of punctuation, yet they always copied the words, old scroll to a new scroll, so as not to miss one point.
Illus: Movie: The Book of Eli. The story of Eli who studied and memorized the last existing KJV bible on earth and presented every word and punctuation point to a printing press to bring it back. His life and memory contained the entire KJV bible from OT to NT and had great impact.
Scribes: Think about what their life must have been like to know GOD’s WORD and the impact that it had upon their lives.
While at a local synagogue viewing the Torah as a rabbi prepared the scroll for the next reading, I saw letters and words with extra long lines to the letters, and some that appeared to be darker than others where the scribe may have written over the letters more than one time. When I asked the rabbi what was the significance of those words and letter, as they looked like they were written in bold. He said he couldn’t say for sure but stated that it is believed that when the letters appeared that way, it was because the scribe himself may have been impacted by GOD’s SPIRIT through those words and wanted to give emphasis to that word or words, or even a single letter for us to stop and think about the meaning.
• Believers are made to be kings and priests, queens and priestesses.
Revelation 1:5-6 (paraphrase) Christ made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 5:9-10b…made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
• In the Old Testament we learn that kings were required to write out the Torah, so that they would know God‘s Word and live and rule by it.
Deuteronomy 17:18-19
18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:
• As a believer, if we are called Heirs of the King, princes and princesses, or even kings and priests, then we also should be writing God’s Word on the tablet of our hearts.

The Message: “GET IT IN YOU”, and furthermore, until it pours out of you.
Proverbs 7:1-3
1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
• Taking GOD’s WORD and writing it on our hearts…will prosper and give us the guiding principles for life.
Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
GODS WORD IS:
• The Guiding Light: Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
• The Moral Compass: Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
