“Living A Spirit-Filled Life - Part 1”

Acts 19:1-6

1. The Promise Of The Spirit

Throughout the Bible, God provides His people with a portrait of things to come. The exact thing same is true when you consider the promise of the Holy Ghost.

Joel 2:28,29 God says, “It shall come to pass that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh. Your sons & your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. And on My menservants & on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”

Matt 3:11 John the Baptist says, “I indeed baptize you with water unto (following) repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost & fire.”

John 14:16,17 Jesus says, “I will pray the Father & He will give you another Comforter that He may abide with you forever - the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him for He dwells with you & will be in you.”

John 14:26 Jesus says, “The Comforter (is) the Holy Ghost.”

Luke 11:13 Jesus says, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Ghost to those who ask Him!”

Acts 1:4,5 Jesus says, “Jesus commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the Promise of the Father which, He said, you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days from now.”

Acts 2:38,39 says, “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent & let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins & you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is to you & to your children & to all who are afar off as many as the Lord our God will call.”

2. The Purpose Of The Spirit

In the Old Testament, the Holy Ghost was sent in order for someone to accomplish something greater than they could do by themselves. The Spirit gave them supernatural physical strength.

Judges 15:14-16 says, “The Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon Samson & he found a jawbone of a donkey & killed 1000 Philistines.”

Ezekiel 11:5 says, “Then the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me & said to me, ‘Speak! Thus says the Lord...”

John 16:8 Jesus says, “And when He (the Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, of righteousness & of judgment.”

One of the primary purposes of the Spirit is to convict you of sin! But, He also convinces you of righteousness& then gives the ability to judge between the two!

John 16:13 Jesus says, “When the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth & He will tell you things to come.”

Two other purposes of the Holy Ghost are to lead you into all truth & to reveal things that will take place in the future.

Acts 1:8 Jesus says, “You will receive power when the Holy Ghost has come upon you & you will be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem & in all Judea & Samaria & to the end of the earth.”

The purpose of the Holy Ghost is to enable Christians to “be” witnesses of Christ everywhere they go.

God is more interested in who you “be” than what you “do.” If who you “be” isn’t right what you “do” won’t be right.

1 Corinthians 12:3 says, “No man can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Ghost.”

It is impossible for anyone to confess that Christ is Lord except that the Holy Ghost reveals that truth to them.

Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

The Holy Ghost testifies that you are born again!

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 says, “The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. For to one is given the word of wisdom though the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one & the same Spirit works all these things distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

The Holy Ghost gives out spiritual gifts to every believer.
