Summary: Nebuchadnezzar doesn't realize the pride in him has reminded us of the past and the future
In Daniel 3:1-3, King Nebuchadnezzar makes an image of himself of gold that is 60 cubits high and 6 cubits wide. He set it up in the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather the satraps, administrators, governors, counselors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image set up.
It's always interesting how people who do wicked things always have to have an audience. King Nebuchadnezzar had a major problem with pride as did several leaders before him. Pride is still a major problem today. It tells us that we are more important than we are. But what prideful people don't realize is sooner or later, their pride will be their downfall. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6
The herald cried out aloud, "To you it is commanded, O people, nations and languages, that at the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and paltry, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be casted immediately into the mist of a burning fiery furnace." And they did. Every time they heard the music, they fell and worshipped the image. Daniel 3:4-7
This is actually very similar to what had happened centuries earlier and what will happen in the future. In Exodus 32:1-35, Aaron built a golden calf and the people of Israel worshipped it. This led to disaster for them and opened the door for the sin of idolatry to enter their lives. That's why they ended up in captivity multiple times. Daniel and several Jews were in captivity in Babylon for 70 years because of the sins of their people.
Revelation 13:14-15 says, "And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed."
This passage is talking about the Antichrist and False Prophet that will come on the scene during the Tribulation. The fascinating thing about the Bible is how the past, present, and future are spoken of and how the events connect.
