Summary: Rest is the completion of creation. Chapter 1 gives the overview of the entire six days of creation. Chapter 2 goes into detail about the most important creation, man.
Verses 1-3, God’s Work Completed and His Day of Rest.
Sanctified means set apart. Exodus 20:9-11, the seventh day is the Lord’s sabbath, day of rest. The rest for us is body repair.
Work & Rest is a Law of God: Psalm 128:1-3, Happiness depends upon work.
John 9:4, Jesus worked. James 1:22, Christian admonished throughout Bible to work.
Verses 4-6, The Generation of Heaven & the Earth.
Verse 7, The Details of How Man was Made.
God formed man. Material was dust of ground; God gave him life he did not evolve. Ecclesiastes 12:7, God’s assignment of the body at death, back to the ground.
Verses 8-14, A Description of the Garden of Eden
Verse 15, God Assigned First Man to Work While Still in Perfection
Verse 17, God’s First Prohibitive Law to Man
We see in this verse man given a free will, right to choose, and the consequences if he chooses wrong.
Verse 18, God Said Man Would be Better Off with a Wife
Proverbs 18:22, Right kind of a wife is a good find, has God’s favor on it.
Verses 19-20, Intelligence of Adam in Naming All of God’s Animals and Fowls
Verses 21-22, How God Made Woman
Not from his head to rule over him.
Not from his feet to be trampled by him.
From under his arm that she might receive his protection.
From near his heart that she might own and command his love.
