CROSS WALK Matthew 26: 51-56
I. HE HUMBLED HIMSELF Matt. 3:15 And
Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.
A. His had no need of baptism
B. He was baptized for our example
C. The One Who’s name we baptize in was also baptized
II. HE DENIED FLESH Matt. 4:4
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
A. When weakened---- He too was tempted
B. When hungered---- He refused to eat the devils food
C. When tried---- He used the Word
1. man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word…
2. Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God v.7
3. Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only 10
D. When offered ---He had a better plan v. 9-10
III. HE PREACHED REPENTANCE Matt 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
A. He preached to the Wretched ---who no one else would
B. He preached to the Rich---who no one else could
C. He preached to the Religious---who no one else should
D. He preached Repentance--- so everyone would
IV. HE DISCIPLED OTHERS Matt 4:19
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
A. He preached to save and Equip
B. He gave Hope where there was no Hope
C. He gave Assurance where there was no Assurance
D. He Gave Victory where there was no Victory
When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Eph 4:8)
Conclusion:
Every step Jesus took He had the cross in mind.
When He Humbled Himself, He was thinking of you.
Born as the Bethlehem babe
Baptized by John the Baptist
Suffered temptation
Suffered the mockery
Suffered the wrath of God
When He Denied His flesh, He was thinking of you.
He who knew No sin, became sin for you
When He preached Repentance, He was thinking of you.
When he said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” He was thinking of you and me
As He walked to the cross I was on His mind.
As He carried the cross on His back, He carried you in His thoughts.
As He felt the nails pierce His hands, you were in His heart.
A Jewish man, in tears, walks up to another Jewish man. "What’s the matter?" "I sent my son to Jerusalem to become a better Jew, and he comes back a Christian. What am I to do?" The other man responds "You know, it’s funny that you say that, because I sent my son to Jerusalem to become a better Jew, and he came back a Christian. Let’s go talk to the Rabbi." So the two men visit the Rabbi, and say "Rabbi, we both sent our sons to Jerusalem to become better Jews, and they both came back Christians. What are we to do?" The Rabbi replied, "You know, it’s funny that you say that, because I sent my son to Jerusalem to become a better Jew, and he came back a Christian. Let us pray for the answer." So the three men begin praying. After a couple of minutes, they hear the voice of God from Heaven say "You know, it’s funny that you say that..."
A fly was buzzing along one morning when he saw a lawn mower someone had left out in their front yard. He flew over and sat on the handle, watching the children going down the sidewalk on their way to school. One little boy tripped on a crack and fell, spilling his lunch on the sidewalk. He picked himself up, put his lunch back in the bag and went on. But he missed a piece of bologna. The fly had not eaten that morning and he sure was hungry. So he flew down and started eating the bologna. In fact he ate so much that he could not fly, so he waddled across the sidewalk, across the lawn, up the wheel of the lawn mower, up the handle, and sat there resting and watching the children. There was still some bologna laying there on the sidewalk. He was really stuffed, but that baloney sure did look good. Finally temptation got the best of him and he jumped off the handle of the lawn mower to fly over to the baloney. But he was too full to fly and he went splat!!, killing him instantly. The moral of the story: Don’t fly off the handle when you are full of baloney.
