Summary: What Every Believer should know Series

BELIEVING THE PROMISES OF GOD

WHAT EVERY BELIEVER SHOULD KNOW

And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. He has promised that you will escape the decadence all around you caused by evil desires and that you will share in his divine nature. 2 Pet. 1:4 (NLT)

I. Everything we do in our Christian life should be based

upon faith in the promises of God.

I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal. 2:20 (NLT)

II. God’s promises are dependent upon His faithfulness

and power to fulfill them.

Without wavering, let us hold tightly to the hope we say we have, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Heb. 10:23 (NLT)

“O Sovereign LORD! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power. Nothing is too hard for you! Jer. 32:17 (NLT)

III. God has chosen to make His promises to us, His

children.

And by that same mighty power, he has given us all of his rich and wonderful promises. 2 Pet. 1:4a (NLT)

IV. The nature of God’s promises to us.

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in him. That is why we say “Amen” when we give glory to God through Christ. 2 Cor. 1:20 (NLT)

V. All of God’s promises are true regardless of whether we

believe them or not.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Gal. 6:7 (NKJV)

After all, we didn’t bring anything with us when we came into the world, and we certainly cannot carry anything with us when we die. 1 Tim. 6:7 (NLT)

VI. Some of God’s promises are only become effective

when we act on them.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Matt. 21:22 (NLT)

You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. John 14:13 (NLT)

VII. The same is true with giving…the condition for this

promise is that we first must give!

If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving—large or small—it will be used to measure what is given back to you.” Luke 6:38 (NLT)

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you! Mal. 3:10 (NLT)

VII. When we believe the promises of God we will act upon

them by faith. Faith and works are inseparable.

So you see, it isn’t enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn’t show itself by good deeds is no faith at all—it is dead and useless.

James 2:17 (NLT)

We must learn to believe God’s exceeding great and precious promises. It will change the way we pray and it will change the way we live!
