Summary: Do I have a guardian angel? What do angels look like? What are angels doing now?

Angels and Demons

Angels

Two Types of Angels:

There are holy angels. (Mark 8:38; Luke 9:26; Revelation 14:10)

There are fallen angels, or demons. (Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:7-9)

There are three angels named in Scripture:

Michael, “who is equal to God?” (Jude 1:9; Daniel 10:12-14; Daniel 12:1-3)

Gabriel, “man or might of God” (Daniel 9:20-23; Luke 1:19; Luke 1:26-28)

Lucifer, Latin “light bearer”, Hebrew “morning star” (Isa. 14:12-13)

There is also a unique messenger in the O.T. referred to as “the angel of the Lord”. Angel means “messenger of God”. “The angel of the Lord” is in some instances, an obvious appearance of the pre-incarnate Christ. (Gen. 32:22-31; Ex. 3:1-6; Zechariah 3)

1Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3So Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up." 4When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am." 5"Do not come any closer," God said. "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." 6Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

Exodus 3:1-6

Jesus is not an angel, but is the creator of angels. Jesus is God.

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Colossians 1:15-16

The holy angels and humanity:

They guided believers and gave direction. (Matthew 2:13-15; Acts 5:17-20; Acts 10:1-7)

19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. 20"Go, stand in the temple courts," he said, "and tell the people the full message of

this new life." Acts 5:19-20

They protect believers from physical harm. (Daniel 6:16-23; Psalms 91:11-12; Acts 27:23-26)

11For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12

They proclaim the coming of the Lord.

(Luke 2:8-16, 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Revelation 14:6-12)

The holy angels and God:

They worship continuously. (Isaiah 6; Revelation 4:8; 5:11-12)

8Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." Revelation 4:8

They are instruments of judgment. (2Samuel 24:14-17; 2Kings 19:34-36; Revelation 16)

They minister to Jesus. (Matthew 4:11; 25:31; 26:53; Luke 22:43)

They serve God and God alone. (Psalm 103:20:21; Rev. 22:8-9)

8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. 9But he said to me, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book. Worship God!" Revelation 22:8-9
