Every nation has need of discipline. God will punish an evil nation for disobedience by unrighteous leadership. Look at the nation of Judah and God's punishment of them. Yet, God will protect and comfort the righteous in captivity.
As Americans, we have not seen a complete overthrow of our nation’s leadership. We have witnessed many attempts to assassinate our presidents, with a few successes. 2. Captivity Of A Nation

If punishment and discipline of a nation is ineffective, God will cause a nation to enter into captivity. Look at the nation of Judah and their captivity.

God will never forsake His own. In captivity, God will protect the righteous from evil rulers so their captivity will be no more than they can stand. Look at the life of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Let us begin a study of the book of Daniel to understand the protection of righteous Hebrew children during the captivity. In faith and trust of God, the righteous will find comfort in captivity. Wisdom will be given for those who seek to find it.
God never forsakes his own. Today we will begin to see comfort given to His righteous captives by some prophecies foretold of a physical literal nature of their future; perhaps way into the future until the dispersing of Christians in AD 70, or beyond. 5. God's Comfort Through Knowledge

Knowledge of God and his kingdom offers comfort to the righteous in all times of pain, sorrow, and suppression by evil beings. Daniel, in captivity, was comforted regularly by knowledge given to 'a man highly esteemed'; Daniel 9:23. Through knowledge, the righteous are comforted today.
In our study of punishment, captivity, protection of saints, and comfort of the righteous in times of captivity, we will see God’s continued comfort in knowledge of His divine plan for mankind unto Daniel.
