Jabez’s prayer may very well have been based on promises he’d heard about in his youth - the blessing given Abraham

On the face of it, the Prayer of Jabez would appear to be the kind of petition God wouldn’t answer - too selfish.

82% of Americans said they believed "God helps those who help themselves" was from Scripture, but Jabez never believed that...

Jabez’ name meant "giver of pain" and that may have been part of the reason he prayed as he did. To whom do we give pain and how should that influence our prayers?
