Today we commence a study of the 7 Parables of the Kingdom found in Matthew’s Gospel. The first is the Parable of the Sower (more to the point, “The Parable of the 4 Soils.”). There are 7 parts for this parable and in Part 1 we look at the Parable as a whole. I hope you enjoy.

We continue with an examination of the parable of the Sower and look at the seed that fell on the hard, barren pathways and beside the road. What are the birds of the air? How does the devil snatch away the sown word? This is a very instructive parable.

We continue the Sower, considering the seed that fell into rocky ground, the shallow soil, with a warning. Temptation plus affliction and persecution will in time burn and kill off any mere profession. These hearers are only temporary. Then we begin the seed choked in the thorny soil.

We are studying the third soil in the Parable of the Sower and now consider the reasons why the good seed gets choked by thorns. How many of us know someone who walked as a strong Christian but just departed the faith? It is a complex matter and we try to see why that happens.

This time we see the fertile, good soil as the Sower broadcast his seed. This is what everyone wants. Also we see the obligations of sowers, the care of the seed, and how this relates to the gospel. We must never handle the bible deceitfully.

Parts 5 and 6 go together but had to be split. Here we look at the results of harvest 100-60-30, contention in churches, and gospel preaching. The parable of the sower is a remarkable one and we are seeing this as we go. We look at how the parable of the talents are related.

In the conclusion to the Parable of the Sower we consider two things. One is the connection between this parable and the Church at Ephesus (Revelation 2), and the other is seeing how this Parable connects with the Apostolic period of Church History.

The Wheat and the Tares is a well-known parable and we dissect it to look at the meaning and practical issues involved. It has had application to the whole of Church history and today those in oversight in churches need to be very cautious and stay alert for the entry of false teaching.

The tares are still alive today with growing false doctrine and practices. At the end of the age they are taken away to leave the righteous for the Kingdom on earth. There is a lot of application to Israel here in the Tribulation and after. The church at Smyrna is also considered.
