The Psalms of Ascents (Psalms 120-134) were sung by worshipers as they made the journey up to Jerusalem for the annual feasts These are what someone called "songs for the road."

Psalms 120 through 134 are called the Songs of Ascent because pilgrims would sing them as they traveled the sometimes steep road ascending up to Jerusalem.

The Psalms of Ascent have an upward motion. They begin in Psalm 120 with the psalmist crying out in trouble far away from Jerusalem, and they end in Psalm 134 with the psalmist offering up praise in the temple courts.
