We live in a world that constantly craves more. The truth is, peace and satisfaction can’t be found in worldly pursuits, but Psalm 23 reminds us that the Lord is our Shepherd, and in Him, we find the rest, peace, and satisfaction our souls long for.

Psalm 23 uses the powerful image of a shepherd and his sheep. Sheep are helpless creature. They need a shepherd—just like we need the Lord. But just as a shepherd leads his sheep, so too does the Lord guide us.

Psalm 23 is not just a still-life image of peace and tranquility--our Shepherd guides us through life’s darkest valleys, too. But no matter how deep or dark the valley, we are never alone. We have an all-sufficient Shepherd who walks with us every step of the way.

Though we often desire to bypass the valleys, the Shepherd knows we must journey through them to reach higher ground. Yet, even in the darkest valleys, God's protection and guidance bring us comfort, allowing us to declare with confidence, "It is well with my soul."
