Psalm 1 is a wisdom Psalm and focuses on God’s Word, God’s blessing on those who obey it and meditate on it, and God’s ultimate judgment on those who rebel.

Psalm 1 emphasizes God’s Law while Psalm 2 focuses on prophesy. The first psalm presents the perfect man, the happy man. The people in Psalm 1 delight in the law, but the people in Psalm 2 defy the law. Psalm 1 begins with a beatitude and Psalm 2 ends. .

Jesus told the chief priests and scribes that it would be a good idea if they would read the scripture so that they would understand why the children were praising Him with shouts of ‘Hosanna to the Son of David’ (Matthew 21:19).

This little psalm may be the most well-known passage in the Bible, and it is definitely the world’s favorite psalm. It is expressed in language that really spoke home to the country folk of that time.

This psalm speaks of the coming of the Chief Shepherd. Tradition says it was composed by David and sung when he brought the ark from the house of Obed-edom to mount Zion.

The underlying theme of this psalm is guidance. David’s circumstances are dire, he hardly knows which way to turn, so he turns to God.

There were numerous occasions in the life of David when all that is expressed in the psalm might have been said by him, just as there are many occasions, in the lives of all of us, to which the sentiments of the psalm would be appropriate.

The scope of the Psalm corresponds well with a state of rest, and meditation on his past trials. The psalm begins with a celebration of God's delivering favor, in which he invites others to join him; he relates his prayer during a time of distress, and God's gracious and prompt answer.
