1. Praying Like Jesus
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
Prayer needs to be the primary way we encounter God and grow in our relationship with Him. Jesus modeled and taught on prayer, particularly through the model of “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Last week I shared our need to get connected to God, the only way to experience an abundant, fruitful life is to get connected to God. We get connected to God through Jesus. The Scripture passage we used last week was Jesus’ words, “you cannot bear fruit unless you remain (abide) in me.” The ...read more

2. Seeking God's Heart - Lord's Prayer Week 2
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
Our prayer life must begin with our relationship with our heavenly Father. God wants us to spend time in his presence even before anything else so we can know his heart. Only afterward should we pray for our needs and the needs of others.
Last week we looked at how prayer is one of the primary ways in which we stay connected to God, or the way Jesus said it, to abide in him, or to be in a relationship with God. All of these terms describe the same thing. Prayer was how Jesus stayed connected to God his Father when he walked the ...read more

3. Honoring God - Lord's Prayer Week 3
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
After entering into relationship with God in prayer we must honor God for who he is and what he has done. We honor God through praise of his name, and our actions.
This week I pulled some actual prayers of kids off the internet: Debbie, age 7, prays Dear God: Please send a new baby for Mommy. The new baby you sent last week cries too much. Dear God: Who did you make smarter? Boys or girls? My sister and I want to know. Jimmy, 6 Dear God: How many ...read more

4. Submitting To God's Authority - Lord's Prayer Week 4
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
When praying for God’s will and kingdom to come, we are actually asking God to use us. We submit to his authority.
When we look at Jesus’ ministry, particularly from the gospel of Luke, we find one of the single most important practices in Jesus’ life was prayer. Luke’s gospel tells us he “often withdrew to lonely places and prayed (Luke 5:16).” Prayer was Jesus’ regular practice, but what did Jesus pray? We ...read more

5. Asking For Our Needs - Lord's Prayer Week 5
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
God is generous and invites us to pray for our needs.
Over the last four weeks, we have been focusing on the Lord’s Prayer as Jesus’ model for our prayers through our series, “Lord, Teach Us to Pray.” So far we have looked at three areas of prayer: relationship, honoring, and yielding. In fact repeat these after me [say them again]. Prayer is about ...read more

6. Giving And Receiving Forgiveness - Lord's Prayer Week 6
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
An essential aspect of prayer is to seek God’s forgiveness and to offer forgiveness to others.
Over the last four weeks, we have been in a series on prayer called “Lord, Teach Us to Pray.” We have been focusing on the Lord’s Prayer as Jesus’ primary teaching for us on how to model our prayers, not to be legalistic saying this is how you must pray, but to enhance our prayer life. So far we ...read more

7. Asking For Protection - Lord's Prayer Week 7
Contributed on Nov 29, 2006
There is a spiritual battle going on and we need to ask for God’s protection to equip us with armor for the battle.
Over the last five weeks, we have been in a series on prayer called “Lord, Teach Us to Pray.” We have been focusing on the Lord’s Prayer as Jesus’ primary teaching for us on how to model our prayers, not to be legalistic saying this is how you must pray, but to enhance our prayer life. Perhaps ...read more
