That fish gets all the attention, but this book contains a message about the character of God. In these few pages we find a story that reveals to us the power and compassion of God...and along the way, like Jonah, we learn that obedience isn’t optional.

We can be so obsessed with what was going on inside that fish that we can miss seeing the drama inside Jonah.

Jonah’s burning because Ninevah isn’t. God appeals to Jonah, and rather than show us Jonah’s response, He invites us to respond. Will we show compassion, or will we run from our responsibility?

Like it or not, Jonah helped bring about one of the largest mass conversions in history. He’s hoping the city will reject his message of doom, which he likely enjoyed delivering!

5. The Psalm Of Jonah

There is still a storm brewing in chapter 2...in Jonah’s heart. The great fish was Jonah’s means of deliverance, and we see here his prayer of thanksgiving for rescue from a watery grave.
