Psalm 34 is a gift from David to us. It gives us a rare and honest glimpse into the heart of a Godly man who was overwhelmed by fear and fatigue and for a moment panicked … just as we are being constantly being overwhelmed and worn down by what seems like a non-stop barrage of bad news lately.

When confronted with a choice, we know what Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah chose. Are we a church of Hananiahs, Mishaels, and Azariahs? I pray to God we never have to find out … but if we do, I hope and pray the choice is clear.

This is the story of Romans 8:35-39. God loves you with a love so strong that nothing can separate you from it. Wherever you go, whatever you do, God’s amazing love will go with you, envelope you, encapsulate you, strengthen you, carry you, and give you hope and courage.

Do you have the heart a mouse or the heart of an eagle? Let me answer that for you. God has not given you the heart of a mouse. He has given you the heart and the spirit of an eagle so that by His strength and by His power you will be able to soar to greater and greater and greater heights.

No one … including you … gets to see God’s power, God’s grace, God’s strength in theirs lives when we’re just sailing along … but we really see it and experience it when we’re going through difficult times … and the world can see it to!

The Bible is filled with the stories of flesh and blood people … frail human beings with ordinary human needs who face all of the same kinds of struggles and challenges that we face … which is why we can not only relate to Paul’s discouragement but can learn from his courage as well.

Habakkuk’s praise was not dependent upon his circumstances and neither should our praise be dependent upon our circumstances. Even if our whole world is coming unglued, we will praise and worship Almighty God. Even if we lose everything, we will rejoice in the LORD and spin around in joy.
