When it comes to the principle of choices, men are always impressed by what they see, but not God. He looks at the heart. The people of Israel selected a king based on the externals - but God was looking at the heart when he selected David.

When you rebel against God, you bear the consequences. Unbelievably, here is King Saul with so much potential in the beginning now bowing down to a foul spirit, but he will not bow down to God. This is a message for young people as well as the adults.

3. The Power Of Discouragement

There is a plague sweeping churches, individuals, governments & nations. It’s not Ebola, Zika or West Nile Virus, cancer, or the flu. It’s called Epidemic of Discouragement. This outbreak is universal, deadly as the most dreaded disease. David faced it.

David possesses all these giftings, yet he is disregarded in his own family. His father and brothers do not value him much, but God does. Our worth is not determined by what others think of us but what God thinks of us.

Grace is a dirty word for the devil. It's the power behind the gospel - not creed, religion, philosophy. Grace is God reaching somebody like me - God's favor that is unearned, undeserved, unrepayable. We see it in David's encounter with Mephibosheth.

For a long time, many skeptics and atheists have stated that David is a mythical character invented by the Jews. But recent archaeological discoveries have proven otherwise. My trip to Israel in January 2016 brought new revelations. David is God's Man.

David said: "I won’t make an offering to God that doesn’t cost me something." What a great passage on demonstration of faith in God. Listen! To give without sacrifice is not to give at all. Ornan and David sacrificed but I believe Ornan sacrificed more.

11. You Are A Giant-Killer But Don't Know It.

When God chooses a man, He will present that man with an opportunity to vindicate his call before men. David is called by God, but that call is private until God brings him to the surface. Goliath becomes that means of public exposure for David.

12. The Trouble With Success

God could have bypassed all protocols and land David in the Palace, but that would be suicidal for David. He had to learn the language of protocol and statecraft. He had to learn how to deal with pressures of success and pass - women, power, wealth.

Who would have blamed David if he had taken his sword and plunged it in the back of Saul for all that Saul had done to him? David drew his sword, but sliced off a portion of Saul’s robe. He felt guilty. His conscience pricked him. How is your conscience?

Our worship of God should not depend on the externals or critics, but based on who He is to us and what He has brought us through. That is why we can worship anywhere - despite who is looking or not looking. Our worship should be in spirit and in truth.

15. What Do You Do When God Says No?

God often says "no" to his children. He said no to Paul; no to Moses regarding Miriam's leprosy and his entering the Promised land; no to Jesus in Gethsamane. He now says no to David. That is part of His Godly attributes as a Father.

David simply a man who believes God for the impossible. He faces giants like everyone of us does everyday. But David trusted God with the impossible and faith brought out the best out of him. Attributes in private now became public. We are giant killers.
