Today we'll begin a study about the APOSTLES, what were the requirements to be an Apostle? There are some people today that call them selves apostles, but as we're about to see, no one today meets these requirements.

2. Judas Iscariot: The Traitor

Judas Iscariot was a thief, he was never a believer as the others, he sat under the teaching of Jesus for over 3 years, he would be a tool of the devil, never feel sorry for Judas, he made his choice.-- He never called Jesus Lord, always Master.

3. Apostle; James The Great

Today local churches send missionaries. -- it is best to call them missionaries, to keep some folks from being confused, if they were referred to as apostles, some folks might think of them as being like the Twelve Apostles, and the Apostle Paul.

The gospel of John is the only gospel of the four that does not give a list of the twelve apostles.

5. Thomas: The So Called Doubter.

I'm sure most people have heard Thomas referred to as "doubting Thomas" , but I doubt that Thomas was any more doubtful than any of the others as we'll see.

6. The Apostle Peter

Peter also called Simon; Simon Peter's father's name was John sometimes referred to as Jonas or Jonah. -- We know nothing more about his parents. ~Simon was a very common name. There are at least seven Simons in the Gospel accounts.

Judas hang himself and went too his own place, hell is not his own personal place, but a special place for him, where he will be released at the set time, and embody the antichrist in the tribulation as we'll see in the scriptures.

8. Matthew The Publican

Matthew was probably more notorious as a sinner than any of the 12, because he was a publican, tax collector for Rome. -- In Jesus' day, land and poll taxes were collected directly by Roman officials, but taxes on transported goods were contracted out.

9. The Apostle Simon, Called "The Zealot", And Also The Apostle Jude.

One reason Simon is called "the Zealot" is to distinguish him from the Apostle Simon Peter. -- He was againts the Roman oppression.

10. Apostle Philip

Philip came from the town of Bethsaida, the town of Peter and Andrew.-- "Philip" is a Greek name, meaning "lover of horses." He probably also had a Jewish name as well, because all twelve apostles were Jewish. --- But his Jewish name is never given.

12. Judas Iscariot: Jesus Called Him "A Devil"

The name "JUDAS ISCARIOT" has 13 letters in it, Judas is found in the 13th. Chapter of John, we read about Judas in John 13: and verse 26, which is 2 x13.~ 13, the number of wickedness and depravety.

The Bible does not give us a record about the ways in which the apostles died, other than James, -- We must rely on early church historians and secular historians as well, but both seem to be in agreement and both are concidered reliable.
