[366]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE WORD OF GOD IS MY PERFECT DELIGHT
Currently I am doing an exposition of Palm 119, verse by verse, which is slowly being put on SermonCentral. This Psalm (119) contains 9 verses similar to these underneath -
{{Psalm 119:16 “I shall delight in Your statutes. I shall not forget Your word.”}}
{{Psalm 119:24 “Your testimonies also are my delight. They are my counsellors.”}}
{{Psalm 119:35 “Make me walk in the path of Your commandments for I delight in it.”}}
I believe David wrote this Psalm and we should know that the word of God was the overriding factor in his life. Even in Psalm 1 this comes out – {{Psalm 1:2 “BUT HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE LAW OF THE LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night”}}
The poem makes comparison with the world’s values against the bible. I use words like “transient” and “ethereal” for the world. All the run around of the world and all its attitudes will never satisfy, but the bible, altogether substantial, will resonate with those of God’s flock because the Holy Spirit who was its Author confirms the truth of the word with us.
The word of God is my delight and what a shame it is that too many Christian don’t pay much respect to the word, and are neglectful. Do they think a small helping on Sunday at a church is enough meagre ration for the week? I would think that if anyone is reading this, that you do delight in the bible.
God bless you for that!
Just a reminder again about the formatting where I put “====================” after each stanza. That is because poems on SermonCentral lose their formatting.
====================================================
THE WORD OF GOD IS MY PERFECT DELIGHT
In the word of God I take my delight,
For nothing else can satisfy.
Your word alone will cleanse and give me sight,
And my heart, it will purify.
=====================
The delight of the world is in vain things.
They chase an ethereal cloud,
But the word of God, my delight it brings.
Let its message be clear and loud.
=====================
What’s in the world is transient in time.
It has no substance that endures.
To eternity’s gate it can not climb;
Only eternal loss procures.
=====================
There is no delight in worldly pleasure,
For true delight is in the word.
Emptiness may fill up the world’s leisure,
But through God’s word His voice is heard.
=====================
Lord, make the living bible my delight
To thrill my soul with wonders great.
Upon Your inspired words shine the light;
Allow my spirit to vibrate.
=====================
Christian, do you share this aspiration
To walk with God’s word as your guide?
The bible given through inspiration
You must never neglect, not hide.

The second stanza, if you wish, could be this one:-
The delight of the world is in vain things.
They chase an ethereal dream,
But the word of God, my delight it brings.
Its message of God’s love its theme.
