[353]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – X MARKS THE SPOT
X marks the spot where we stand in God, where we place our feet and take our stand as Christians. “X marks the spot” is a very well-known expression in English.
Jellyfish don’t stand their ground but drift around according to the whim of the current. Too many people including Christians go along with the prevailing current of opinion and with philosophy and new trends in religion and New Age.
A mind that is not regenerated and seen as a new creation in Jesus Christ, is one that is vacant to the wisdom of God and therefore susceptible to the changing values of this world.
The other aspect explored in the poem is X marks the spot where Golgotha stands, the place of crucifixion. Jesus knew that spot and there we went as the Lamb of God who died for the sins of the world. Those who place their faith and lives in Him will know that ground marked by the X as the spot of forgiveness.
The enemy will want to take away our fellowship and connection with the Lord so the spot must be guarded. X marks the spot of Refuge in which we shelter and at the same time defend.
1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
ye soldiers of the cross;
2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in His strength alone;
4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
{{Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the full armour of God, that you may be ABLE TO STAND FIRM against the schemes of the devil,”}}
{{Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore, take up the full armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand FIRM.”}}
I hope the poem will be meaningful for you.
===============================================================
X MARKS THE SPOT
X marks the spots where God
Wants me to stand up true.
I’ll find them in His word,
When I read it right through.
===============
I stand on holy ground
Where saints of God have stood;
The ground that Christ has won,
And changed from bad to good.
===============
No other refuge safe
Except what Christ achieved.
It’s there I placed my feet
The day I first believed.
===============
But Christ, He knew that spot,
And to Calvary went.
He was made sin for us.
This is why He was sent.
===============
The cross has marked the spot:
Redemption’s prime site,
Where God, our blessed Saviour,
Against sin won the fight.
===============
Daniel claimed that same place,
‘Twas faith that kept him firm.
Men’s laws he did not fear;
Before men did not squirm.
===============
In God’s holy presence,
Moses was called to be.
The glory of the Lord
He was allowed to see.
===============
Redemption ground I’ll hold;
Its treasure not release.
It’s where my feet hold fast,
In God’s eternal peace.
===============
Let courage be your nerve,
And stand your ground so well,
For X will mark the spot
Where you and God will dwell.
