[331]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - WE NEED THE LORD ALWAYS

In the past, maybe 150 years ago, divers who dived for pearls in clams, would have a tube for air going from a boat on the surface and it was operated by a pump. I think the tube might have been made from rubber. There was no such thing as scuba diving in those days.

That tube was their lifeline and had to be kept functioning.

The Christian also has a lifeline to God and if that is broken or restricted then there is great trouble. Asphyxiation can result, and for a Christian, that means a poor, struggling, ineffective and useless life being lived, of no benefit to God or to that person.

IN OTHER WORDS – WE NEED THE LORD ALWAYS. That is the subject of this poem, a full and continual dependence on the Lord.

Jesus issued the invitation to come unto Him but He does not leave it go at that. Those who come are held tightly in His sheepfold and His care for His children is for their whole life. He carries our load when it is too heavy for us - He assists the load to bear. He is one who is closer than a brother.

When under attack the Lord does not draw back, but as I said in the poem -

When the wolf’s at the door of your life,

And brings his package of hurt and strife,

Place Jesus between you and the door.

We need Jesus, and the person who thinks he has made it, is living a lie. It is so easy just to draw back and not to know it. That is what happened to the church at Ephesus in A.D. 96 when John wrote to them. To become independent and allow your church to govern by man’s program and man’s structure and man’s organisation, is to become self-sufficient and you may not even know it. In that case this couplet from the poem then applies –

We accomplish nothing without Him;

We’d be nothing than a detached limb.

For those who have never taken the step leading to conversion; who have never known their need of a Saviour, please forsake the old emptiness and come to Jesus for salvation. We need our Creator to govern us, His creation. Give your life to Him and let Him lead. You really do need Him!

{{James 4:8 {{“DRAW NEAR TO GOD and HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU. Cleanse your hands, you sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”}}

{{Hebrews 4:16 “LET US THEREFORE DRAW NEAR with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need.”}}

{{Hebrews 10:22-23 “LET US DRAW NEAR WITH A SINCERE HEART in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL,”}}

WE NEED THE LORD ALWAYS

We need the help of the Lord always,

To keep us strong throughout all our days.

We need His presence never to cease:

The ministry of comfort and peace.

The One who proclaimed, “Come unto Me,”

Is the One who stays, ever to be;

As close as on the Emmaus Road,

The One who willingly takes your load.

==================

In troubles draw near. The Lord is nigh

He hears each faint bleat and the strong sigh.

His arms are strong to carry your weight,

As He walks with you through this world’s hate.

And His support is like no other;

A Friend who’s closer than a brother.

The troubles of life – not yours to bear;

Jesus will take your burden to wear.

==================

When the wolf’s at the door of your life,

And brings his package of hurt and strife,

Place Jesus between you and the door.

Against the evil one, it’s a war;

Only in God’s strength will you endure.

Let the Lord deal with all that’s impure,

For you need Him, and do not forget,

Else through failure, you’ll come to regret.

==================

The disciples once were on the sea.

The storm raged on and their hope did flee;

Imperfect hope that forgot the Lord,

Because they’d not taken Him on board.

In every corner of your life’s need,

Jesus is your Cornerstone indeed.

The greatest irony of all this,

Is that we don’t let the Lord assist.

==================

Why continue in distress with fear?

Why struggle on when help is so near?

We need the Lord, so on Him then call;

Not your second choice after you fall.

Place Jesus first, and with Him you’ll walk

Through life’s mazes, with no need to baulk.

He knows the beginning and the end;

The surest Friend on whom to depend.

==================

Take real comfort from those saints of old

Who through enduring faith were made bold.

Their faith was the strongest anchor set.

They called on God and their needs were met.

We need the Lord, frail creatures of dust,

So hold to Him with a childlike trust.

We walk by faith and not through blind sight.

The walk is spiritual in the light.

==================

We accomplish nothing without Him;

We’d be nothing than a detached limb.

Only in Jesus we walk aright,

But we need Him to give us our sight.

We step with Him on the narrow way,

Not behind or before, but we stay

Hand in hand because support we need.

Give your life to Him and let Him lead.
