[319]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM - UNDONE BEFORE THE LORD

The second stanza begins this way – “Oh, cancel pride and arrogance, A haughty spirit rising up.” Pride is one great factor why people don’t come in repentance to the Lord. They will not admit a need for salvation; nor will they humble themselves in God’s sight to have the Holy Spirit open their life of sinfulness so they can come and be converted.

The focus of this poem is not on the unsaved person, but on the Christian. Pride is so devious and in a believer can inch its way into a saved life. That is what this poem looks at.

I used words like “lurking pride”, “independent way”, “sinful self”, “rebellious, selfish pride”. Unfortunately, a Christian can be controlled by those aspects.

{{Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”}}

{{Psalm 51:2 “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin”}}

{{Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”}}

A Christian is possessed by the Holy Spirit but how often is he found to dwell in a place of unholiness. It must not be but we know the weakness of our sinful flesh.

============================================================

UNDONE BEFORE THE LORD

Redeemed through grace and that by faith;

Saved by His precious blood alone.

A son of earth made from the dust -

Who for himself could not atone.

===============

Oh, cancel pride and arrogance,

A haughty spirit rising up.

Reveal to me my sinful self,

That I might flee to You to sup.

===============

And in Your sight what evil more

Than man’s rebellious, selfish pride -

That likeness of the wicked one

Who all God’s goodness does deride.

===============

Now break me, Lord, that lurking pride,

May never gain a wrongful throne.

Now lift me up to feed on You

In everything, just Yours alone.

===============

Then no more self to interfere,

Then no more independent way.

A walk that’s based on sinlessness,

Will be realised in us one day.
