[298]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE WORD OF GOD

This poem concentrates solely on the bible, the Word of God. Many images and metaphors are used for the bible and taken from God’s word.

STANZA 1. The introduction and the requests for living and teaching. Psalm 119 could fit into this.

STANZA 2. The word of God is the path before us – it lights up the path. {{Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”}} The word feeds us.

STANZA 3. The word is as water that washes and cleanses from sin. {{Ephesians 5:26 “that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,”}}. The word of God is a hammer also – {{Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not My word like fire?” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock?”}}

STANZA 4. The word is milk and meat = from the bible, all the nourishing growth we need. {{1 Peter 2:2 “like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word that by it you may grow in respect to salvation”}}. The bible is our guide for life.

This poem can be sung and many tunes could fit. I suggest three possibilities:-

- When I survey the Wondrous cross

- Jesus, and shall it ever be.

- Jesus, Thou joy of loving hearts.

Hoping this means something to you.

THE WORD OF GOD

Bring before me, Your precious word.

Let me live it - that which I’ve heard.

Open my soul. Teach me Your truth;

To be discreet, never uncouth.

================

Pathways of light, lead me along;

With every step, praise You in song.

Food for my soul, that do I crave.

Banquet feasts with, my journey pave.

================

Water of life - Your word will cleanse;

Healing my soul, the heartache ends.

Hammer of God, stone hearts will break;

Shatters men’s ways, reveals what’s fake.

================

Milk of the word, young hearts sustains

Nurturing them, rich are the gains.

Your precious book, my valued guide,

Deep in my breast, may it abide.
