[296]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – THE WINDS THAT BLOW

This poem needs thought, and your understanding of it might be different from mine as I wrote it.

The poem is a comparison or even a contrast. The first half is based on nature and the original Edenic calmness and the second half takes up what man has become in his sin.

The beginning is the calmness that a pleasant morning will present. The air was calm, no wind to rustle anything. During the day the wind got stronger and stronger and blew right until about sunset when the night became calm again. I see that sort of weather a lot in the tropics. So we went from calm to roughened winds and back to calm.

In the second half of this poem it describes what God’s creation became. A calmness reigned in God’s creation until sin entered in disobedience against God. Then the winds of rebellion, sin and wickedness grew stronger even into gales. That represents this day of man’s turbulence, the gales of wickedness that will last until the day is done.

The last stanza is about Christ who returns to earth and stills all the world in His reign here. It corresponds to the night in stanza 3 when all became calm again. Messiah brings peace throughout in His Kingdom of righteousness. We look forward to that day.

{{Mark 4:37-39 “There arose a fierce GALE OF WIND, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up, and He Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” and being aroused, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “HUSH, BE STILL,” AND THE WIND DIED DOWN AND IT BECAME PERFECTLY CALM.”}}

THE WINDS THAT BLOW

When I awoke this morning all was calm.

The whitish mist enshrouded all the plain.

Not once did quiver leaves upon the palm,

And nothing too, to flicker one wind vane.

=================

Two hours passed and all began to change.

The wind arose, and from the east did blow.

Each tree responded in its swaying range,

And resonated as the wind did flow.

=================

Throughout that day the wind increased in pace,

And strongly blew the branches all around.

As for the land, the night would soon embrace,

The wind had died to leave a silent sound.

=================

A calmness reigned in God’s creation fresh,

Before man’s sin had entered to destroy.

Increasing evil did each one enmesh,

And stronger blew the winds in sin’s employ.

=================

Now all men live in gusts of hurtful hate,

And sinfulness of every kind they know.

Satanic winds don’t want then to abate,

But resonate the world with fear and woe.

=================

But soon will come the Christ who stilled the sea,

And brought about the calmness of His peace.

Crushed will be he devil’s power quickly.

The calmness then of His own peace won’t cease.
