[210]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – OUR PILGRIM JOURNEY
When I was to do the Introduction for this poem I noticed that it had only 3 stanzas. I don’t write poems that short, so back there in 2021, I may have intended coming back to it to add more. I can not remember now. Anyway I did add all the extra stanzas on 15th September 2025.
This poem and the previous one also about “Pilgrim” look at the Christian life we live in this world. The previous one is “OUR PILGRIM JOURNEY HOME.” In the new poem here, the lines are short and much to the point. The stanzas look at the Christian living in the world and the end of that is attaining heaven.
I am going to repeat part of the introduction from that previous poem relating to the use of pilgrim:-
[[[ The KJV is the only translation to use the word “pilgrim” and it is used twice.
{{Hebrews 11:13 “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and PILGRIMS on the earth.”}}
{{1 Peter 2:11 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and PILGRIMS, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul”}}
Most commentators and translators say the use of pilgrim above is a poor translation with the correct meaning being a sojourner or foreigner. Strong’s says “an alien alongside, i.e. A resident foreigner.” ]]]
I hope this poem makes sense to you. Stanzas 2 and 8 are my favourites.
This is the hope we have on our journey as heaven waits before us (Stanzas 6 and 12).

OUR PILGRIM JOURNEY
We may not understand;
The path may be dim.
God keeps you safe in Him;
Guides by His unseen hand.

His truth surpasses all;
His truth is your rock.
Ideals, this world may mock,
But their false ways will fall.

Walk with God day by day.
Tread through paths of sin.
Shut out the world’s din.
Close to Jesus must stay.

From troubles not immune:
Certain help is near.
Christ says, “Do not fear.
I’m coming very soon.”

Your ways the world knows not.
They walk in the night.
But know not their plight.
Against you they will plot.

Speak of your hope ahead.
Be bold to sound out
As you go about.
By your Saviour be led.

Travel light as you go.
Don’t be burdened down.
Onward to your crown.
Only in Christ you’ll grow.

Your eyes are on the Lord,
Not on lions’ claws;
Not on open jaws;
But look to your reward.

You’ll never walk alone.
Peace and calm He gives.
In your heart He lives;
Never a cause to moan.

Be a light in darkness.
Rebuke, you will meet.
Plan steps for your feet,
So you’re in God, blameless

Soon will greet the dawning
Of that bright, new day.
The Lord takes you away
On that promised morning.

When you’ve reached heaven’s gate
Your journey will end.
