[177]. A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – LORD, OPEN MY EYES
Opened eyes is truly a marvellous thing. The term “eyes opened” comes to mean understanding and awareness of what is reality or of what is happening. Only once in the whole bible are the words “open my eyes” found, and it is this verse – {{Psalm 119:18 “OPEN MY EYES that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.”}}
Why would we want to have our eyes opened? For Christians it has to relate to understanding God – His will, His way for us, what the bible says, and very especially, “That I might see Jesus.”
Do you recall the time in the Old Testament when Elisha and his servant were surrounded by the Lord’s enemies and the servant was afraid. Then Elisha prayed for him. Here is that prayer -
{{2 Kings 6:17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, OPEN HIS EYES THAT HE MAY SEE,” and the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”}}
Going back to the reason for this poem, we sit right with Psalm 119, the great chapter in the bible about the bible. The awesome Psalm 119 was the inspiration for this poem especially verse 18. “Lord, we ask you please, open our eyes to see many lovely truths about You from the bible. We would see Jesus!” John 12:21.
===============================================================
LORD, OPEN MY EYES
Lord, open my eyes, for this is my plea.
Open my eyes - show Jesus to me.
====================
Such wonderful things are found in Your word.
Straight from our God, such wonders are heard.
The glories of Christ; His beauty on high;
Pictures of Him; throughout His word lie -
====================
Examples from the, Old Testament shine;
Scenes from the Book, they all do combine.
The words from His mouth, His acts and His deeds,
Each in its place, my soul on them feeds.
====================
His beautiful life lived all before men,
Showed His deep love, and on display when,
His beauty divine, by men set aside;
Placed in God’s word, will always abide.
====================
Lord, open my eyes, for this I request -
Beauties to see, from Your treasure chest.
