[029] A MESSAGE FROM A POEM – BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
This is a very special poem because in a time of great difficulty, the Lord woke me from irregular sleep to give me this poem at 3 o’clock in the morning. Of course the poem flowed along because it came from God. It was a message I truly needed to be impressed on me. I am trusting the Lord will want others to know this same message.
The poem title comes from a bible verse – {{Psalm 46:10 "BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"}} (ESV)
The NASB translates as, {{“Psalm 46:10 “Cease striving and know that I am God. . . .”}}
It is God speaking and He asks us to be still – be quiet, and wait patiently for the Lord’s own time. So many of us fuss around and run around boxing the air and getting nowhere. That is not what God wants for you. He wants you to be like Mary was in the Gospel – {{Luke 10:39-40 “She had a sister called MARY who moreover was listening to the Lord’s word, SEATED AT HIS FEET, BUT MARTHA WAS DISTRACTED with all her preparations and she came up to Him, and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me,”}}
Mary thrived in the quietness with just the voice of the Lord. On one occasion Jesus was with His disciples in a boat and a storm arose quickly and waves threatened to sink the boat. Here was a contrast. The disciples were running around in a panic but the Lord was asleep. He was in quietness with His Father. We are often like those disciples in a panic while the Lord keeps trying to assure us – “Be still and know that I am God.”
Yes, the same God with all power who created the universe and all in it! He cares for you. Commit your way to Him and He will direct your paths. Rest in His stillness. Be still and listen. {{Psalm 4:4 “Tremble, and do not sin. Meditate in your heart upon your bed, AND BE STILL. Selah.”}}
=============================================
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Be still and know that I am God!
O what a rampart for the soul!
And what a fortress strength to claim.
For not in part, but in the whole
Will God be true to His own Name.
My refuge is His mighty strength
Contained throughout its breadth and length.
================================
Be still and know that I am God!
Above the clamour of this world
His still, small voice can still be heard.
Amidst the threats against you hurled
Take comfort in His mighty word.
This world knows only bitter strife
But God, your Saviour, is your life.
================================
Be still and know that I am God!
Now what a comfort that provides.
What tenderness and love is there.
For in our hearts His peace abides,
And gentleness will mark His care.
By waters calm He leads His own
Right to the joy of His own throne.
================================
Be still and know that I am God!
Your days of life on earth are brief -
Eternal sunshine glows on you,
And even when you face sore grief,
His presence ever He’ll renew.
He passed this way when He lived here.
He knows your pain, the hurt, each tear.
================================
Be still and know that I am God!
What I’ve decreed, I’ll bring about.
In loudest thunder, I’m still there.
Don’t let your soul be wrecked by doubt,
For through the torrent, you, I’ll bear.
In strong earthquake, and fire and fear
I am with you. I’m always near.
