HAVE YOU HEARD OF WEE BOBBY MOFFETT?
There was a small village church in Scotland that did not seem to be growing. The deacons cornered the pastor and had serious questions about the church. The deacons asked WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO GROWTH IN THE CHURCH THIS YEAR? We have not had one new member. The deacons thought the church was going backwards. The church had plateaued . The deacons were considering dismissing the old pastor.
The pastor agreed with the deacons. We have seen no growth this year. It has been a very lean year, we have decided we need a young pastor. No one has come to accept Jesus this year. The old pastor had tears in his eyes. He said remember that poor little Moffett family. Their young son (4) came to the altar and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Remember WEE BOBBY MOFFETT? Remember that lad?
WEE LITTLE BOBBY MOFFETT? Several years later WEE BOBBY went to a missions meeting and the Lord began dealing with WEE BOBBY. The ushers took up the offering. The Moffett family was very poor. When the offering basket passed Bobby he was crying and he said: I HAVE NOTHING TO GIVE. NOTHING… BOBBY ASKED THE USHER TO PLACE THE OFFERING PLATE IN THE FLOOR OF THE CHURCH. So the usher complied. WEE BOBBY was bare footed and he stepped into the offering plate and said: “I HAVE NOTHING TO GIVE TO GOD, NOTHING BUT MYSELF.”
That day was a turning point in WEE BOBBY’S LIFE. Only one person saved the whole year? Bobby’s poor family could not afford a fine education for him. He helped work in people’s gardens. Bobby started praying for hours. BOBBY volunteered to help a mission couple, JOHN WILLIAMS. In 1816 Bobby was 21. Bobby left his home and traveled with them to AFRICA. Bobby found himself in Cape Town Africa serving as a missionary. 3 years later in December 1819 WEE BOBBY was now ROBERT MOFFETT. ROBERT MARRIED A GIRL FROM HIS HOMETOWN, MARY.
HEAR ME, YOU MAY THINK YOU ARE A NOBODY IN A NOBODY PLACE DOING NOTHING. ROBERT AND MARY MOFFET SERVED 50+ YEARS in missions. BOBBY BECAME DOCTOR ROBERT MOFFETT … Doctor Moffett preached Jesus Christ to the heathen of South Africa and he taught them gardening skills. His work kept many from starving to death. Today that area has their own translation of the Bible because of WEE BOBBY MOFFETT.
JOHN WILLIAMS AND BOBBY TOGETHER WORKED A LIFE TIME IN AFRICA FOR THE CROSS. They remained true and faithful. JOHN WILLIAMS WAS MARTYRED FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE LORD. The native tribe KILLED AND ATE JOHN. The cannibals of ERROMANGA feasted on John. Still the work progressed.
This never slowed WEE BOBBY down one bit. Let me tell you another story. Wee Bobby preached 7 years before he led a native to Jesus. Wee Bobby mastered the Tribes language, translated the Bible. He had the whole Bible printed. Let me tell you some more? Bobby’s son JOHN MOFFET spent his life as an African missionary. His daughter MARY became the wife of one of the most famous missionaries DAVID LIVINGSTON. Wee Bobby took one furlough in 52 years.
HEY OLD PREACHER YOU FAILED? He felt like a failure. The deacons told him he failed… Remember how important people are. Remember God accepts giving. Remember God loves you and can use you.
