Sermon Illustrations

I come from a fishing family. When I became old enough to walk, I became old enough to experience the wonderful world of fishing. One of things I particularly love is throwing a shad net. Often times it becomes very draining work, and at the tender age of 12 I became the primary go-to-guy for getting the bait(shad). As I grew I began to develop a deep relationship with the Lord, and so many ways my fishing experiences brought certain reflections spiritually. One day, a friend and I went fishing, but it was such a dismal day for getting shad. I've seen where schools of them were running, but I was not retrieving any in my net. I told my friend, as I reflected on the words of Jesus, cast your net on the right side, and believe me when I tell you, the net was full of shad! My friend has done gone to be with the Lord, but I don't think he ever forgot, nor I, that blessed day, when the words of Christ spoken over our situation once again brought a great net full! God is so good!
