A few months ago I went into hospital for an operation. I had my wisdom tooth removed as well as a chipped tooth fragment removed, which had found it’s way into my sinus cavity. I was under anaesthetic so I didn’t feel a thing and woke up on the operating table after the procedure was finished. I felt wonderful! No pain at all!

Gradually the anaesthetic wore off and I have never felt so much pain in a long time. It was unbearable, nagging, searing pain, from which I could not escape. I didn’t care about what was happening in the world. All I could feel was my own pain, like a knife point pressing into my skull. I rocked back and forth until Julie was able to procure some strong pain killers and even then it was a long time before I succumbed to the respite of sleep - 4 hours of escape until the next pain killer. Job had no pain killers. He experienced excruciating pain all over his body - unbearable, nagging pain from an outbreak of sores inflicted upon him by Satan. Satan didn’t kill him but took him to the edge of sanity. Job wished he had never been born.
