There were two brothers named John and Charles. They grew up in a religious home. They believed there was a God. They had religious training. One even became a minister.

But it was not until their 30’s or so, did they truly have their hearts, as one of them put it, ‘strangely warmed.’ That heart warming set them on a journey of a ministry that impacted their native country of England in ways large and small.

It moved one of them to write these words that have been sung down through the centuries in good times and bad times. In peace and in war. In hope and in fear.

O, for a thousand tongues to sing/My great redeemer praise/The glories of my God and king/The triumphs of his grace.

Hear Him, ye deaf His praise, ye dumb/Your loosened tongues employ/Ye blind behold your Savior come/And leap, ye lame, for joy!

They point us to the truth, the promise, the hope that our troubled and challenged human hearts can be made to love, to care, to forgive, to grace, to change… because of what Jesus Christ has done for us.
