Since we are about to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, let’s see what the day is truly about.

Webster’s *New World Dictionary* says:

"Saint Patrick’s Day - March 17, observed by the Irish in honor of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland"

But Eavey’s *History of Christian Education* says:

"Patrick went to Ireland from England about the year 432 and evangelized the country. Though a man of limited educational opportunity, he encouraged learning, laying the foundation for an Irish church that was devoted to the Word of God. A man of the Book and not of traditions, one who believed in the teachings of the Bible and not in the doctrines of man, he gave the impetus that kept the lamp of Christianity burning during the centuries when darkness prevailed elsewhere.
