What’s A Church Worth? Ram A. Cnaan, author of The Invisible Caring Han: American Congregations and the Provision of Welfare, found through research that the net value of local congregational, social, and community services averages $15,307 per month, or approximately $184,000 per congregation per year. In a Christianity Today interview the author noted, “The economic value of the congregational contribution to the quality of life in America is staggering. In fact, one could say that our society is subsidized by the tax exempt status granted by our society.” (Christianity Today 2/03)
