I have learned quite a bit about wolves this year in preparation for a winter trip to Yellowstone. One of my favorite photographs of a wolf pack shows them traveling over the crest of a hill, through very deep snow.

It is an aerial photograph, which shows an exquisitely organized approach to such terrain. Both the young and old are able to travel long distances to reach their prey. All of the wolves follow a lead wolf, in single file. The lead wolf breaks a trail in the snow, and the other wolves simply follow, expending far less energy.

And so the wolves follow a leader in a grand design of transportation over hazardous terrain. The young and old alike are able to each food and continue their survival in the long winter months.

And so, Jesus will lead us on the road no matter how deep the snow.
