Smartphones are amazing pieces of technology. Everything my generation went to RadioShack to purchase is now all together in the palm of our hand, including our flashlights. My grandfather loved flashlights. It was okay to get him a new one each year for Christmas or his birthday. He would take a new one. He had them next to his bed and when he got up in the night he would grab one and use it to navigate the dark house as everyone slept.

There is nothing more frustrating than needing a flashlight, finding one in a drawer, switching it on and instead of a bright guiding light there is only a faint yellow glow. The batteries are weak or low and the power is gone.

There are times when our Christian walk can be like that. We know we should, and even desire to be the light Jesus said we should be, but the spiritual batteries just seem dead. Self-reliance can be part of the issue. Jesus said apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). The book of Acts gives us the remedy. In Acts 1:8, we read, "But, you will receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be witnesses unto me..."
