False Prophecies About The Return Of Christ
Contributed by Dr. Larry Petton on Apr 6, 2024 (message contributor)
Throughout history, there have been various preachers and religious figures who believed that Jesus’ Second Coming was imminent. Let’s explore some notable predictions and claims related to this event:
Hippolytus of Rome, Sextus Julius Africanus, and Irenaeus (500 CE): These early Christian theologians predicted that Jesus would return in the year 500. One of their predictions was based on the dimensions of Noah’s ark.
Joachim of Fiore (1260 CE): The Italian mystic Joachim determined that the Millennium would begin between 1200 and 1260.
Jean de Roquetaillade (1370 CE): Jean de Roquetaillade predicted that the Antichrist would come in 1366, and the Millennium would begin in 1368 or 1370.
Sandro Botticelli (1504 CE): The renowned painter Sandro Botticelli believed he was living during the time of the Tribulation, and he thought the Millennium would begin within three and a half years from 1500.
Modern Predictions: In more recent times, various individuals have set specific dates for Jesus’ return. For example:
William Miller predicted that the Lord would come on October 22, 1844.
Hal Lindsey wrote the bestselling book “The Late Great Planet Earth,” predicting Jesus’ return in 1988.
Edgar C. Whisenant sold millions of copies of his book "88 Reasons Why the Lord Is Going to Come by 1988".
He later said the next year that he was off by a few months and t hen wrote the book, "89 Reasons Why Christ Is Going to Come in 1989".
